I can't tell if enthusiasm about Heart of the World is flagging because of the holidays or from the misconception that we've managed to get the down-payment together already. To clarify, we've raised the $48,000 deposit, not the $500,000 down-payment. Until we get it together, we're dead in the water. I recommend writing anyone you think might be interested in financing the project. Every little bit helps.

That musta been one hell of a lightning strike, because it rolled on for a good ten seconds down here by BC Place. At first I didn't think it could be a lightning strike 'cause it went on too long; I thought something must have gone splodey.

But then I still remember the deep and terrible chill I got when there was a mighty FLASH! - and the power went out - followed by a BOOOOM!!! and the wail of the air-raid siren. I have big splodey things on the brain, or something.

*grin* I was at the Abbotsford Airshow one year when they did a "simulated bombing run"; two CF-18s flew in low and fast over the runway and gasoline bombs were detonated along their flightpath (okay, it was silly, but it looked kinda cool). Immediately after the first overpressure whump, every alarm in the parking lot went off.

Car alarms are really stupid things.

i was quite sure that it happened right outside my window... i saw a GIANT flash ouside my window and not 2 seconds later the loudest rumble... but only once did it happen

I was nearing the end of a driving lesson here in the downtown core. It was awesome. Everything had a very simian reaction and looked up at the sky liked startled chimps. A lot of cars even put on their brakes. A gentle reminder. "you are nothing" says the sky. : )

In a nuclear war, car alarms will be the last sound most people hear.

That's actually quite a horrible thought. Perhaps the only thing more horrible is that I'm already riffing poetry out of it. Not with a bang but a whimper, two bleats, a honk, three seconds of siren, two more honks, and repeat.

Actually, EMP might make a nice mess of a lot of the car alarms. But then, the effects of nuclear EMP are pretty random. (They're making some progress with microwave-based EMP devices, but there's considerable controversy in military-industrial circles as to whether they'll ever be worthwhile.)
