I'll have internet while I'm gone

Book about photobooths.

I haven't gone camping in so long that I'm certain I've forgotten to pack some obvious essential more useful even than a toothbrush but smaller than a sleeping bag. It doesn't help that between this trip and my last, I've already lost my duffel bag by "putting it in a safe place", leaving me to borrow David's much tinier one, that will not fit either my tripod or bed-roll. If I don't watch out, I'm going to get stuck with an uncomfortable, awkwardly packed backpack.

In other news, Amy's moving out, which means there's going to be a two-bedroom apartment in my building available December 1st for $950/month. Third floor near Commercial Dr, between Venables and Hastings, better views than my apartment, laundry in the basement for a dollar, bike rack in the bottom floor vestibule. Pets aren't allowed, but we all have them anyway. Landlord is pleasantly neglectful, and tends to only come by for rent.

Man splendidly decorates basement with $10 worth of Sharpie.

$950/month for a two bedroom apartment? *sigh* In SF, you can't even get a studio for that anymore.

I admit, we're not in a shiny, shiny part of town. Crackton's only a flew blocks west, the cheap hooking strip is only two blocks north, and if you're parking your car overnight across the street, you might as well smash in the window yourself.

That said, I like it here.

I just bought that book about photobooths. Looks good.

Also.. EEee! I didn't know you were on LJ. Added. Oh yes. Time for the stalkin'.

I love photobooths. I need to find a scanner, so I can scan in the one we got in Toronto, with David and Christine and I all crammed in one. It's awesome.

That sharpie basement is rad!

In other news, that part of vancouver has a certain ghetto charm about it.

In that way where the road to my house is ribbed for her pleasure with some of the last original cobblestone, yes.

Camping utensils, multitools, medical supplies, more socks than number of feet in whole group, flashlights, CAN OPENER!

I forgot almost all of those last time.

Don't own, don't own, thought about, don't own, want one but don't have one, and hmmm. Maybe.

NINE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE DOLLARS FOR RENT?!?

No joke, I actually rent out my downstairs closet for more than that.

Seriously.

TeeHee. That's exactly the kind of thing I would do.

OH MY GOD. I NEED TO POST PICS OF MY PLACE.

Clearly he saved up all the money to spend on a television the size of Kansas.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
That doesn't surprise me a whit.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2008-11-21 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
He's a lawyer. Televisions the size of Kansas simply gravitate towards them.

Oh and I forgot to say: bon voyage! Happy travels.

I live in the Civic Center/Hayes Valley area. The location is okay, and I'm not getting gouged too badly on rent (the wonders of rent control), but the building I live in is ancient. When I first moved in, a studio was $850/month or so. Now they're $1250.

Meanwhile, I keep drooling over the shiny new condos that opened up earlier this year over on Page street (a block away). I discovered today that the selling prices on those have dropped almost 15% over the past few months, but I still can't afford one. :(

*blink* we pay $1600 for a three bedroom...
Headlamps are essential for my camping happiness, and toilet paper.. pillows are nice too.. and in the desert: hat+sunblock!!!!!

Have an amazing time!!!

I know someone who might be interested in the apartment for rent.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
I was shocked, but so far, I haven't worn sunblock even once. Winter down here apparently is completely safe on the skin.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
I hope you passed it on. The more good people in the building, the better.

He was asking for the address of the place so he could check it out this weekend when he's in town.

Er, as it was for December first, I'm sure it's ben rented out already.
