IF FOUND, PLEASE REPORT

My asymmetrical purple fedora has vanished, lost somehow in the earliest hours of Boxing Day, most probably to the Metrotown parking lot. It was a fine hat, resilient, much loved, and my utter favourite, the best I've ever had. Already I miss it, along with the lovely feather fascinator attached to it that Sugar made me for my birthday. A moment of silence, please.

Also mysteriously gone this year: The Scarf of True Love.

Praised in song that hat should be; I am so sorry for your loss.

Nothing's been turned into Metrotown's lost and found as of this morning. Do you remember in which parking lot you might have lost it? I'm working later this afternoon, but I don't live that far away from Metrotown.

It would have been in the parking lot outside the Futureshop, so not strictly Metrotown. I called them already, though, and they don't have it.

Oh purple hat, how splendid in your glory, your wooly protection from rain abound?

I have to stop by there after work tomorrow. If you'd like, I can check both the lot and the other stores/hotels and see if anything was found.

So sad. That hat was a haberdasher's delight.

That would be splendid of you. I was going to get out there today, but ended up spending time dealing with a gas leak instead.

Update: I was just there after work tonight, checked out the parking lot, the planters and the garbage bins and also asked two security men who were patrolling the area at the time. No luck, I'm sorry to report. Last ditch effort: go into the individual stores/restaurants and ask. I'll let you know if I'm successful.

On the other hand, sometimes losing stuff is a sign of change. I walked out of a Safeway last month during the snow, and realized I had left my hat there. It was one my ex had given me: handmade, but more utilitarian than lovely. Those words being symbolic of the relationship, I did not turn back.

I have more regrets about you losing your hat, than about losing mine.

I checked Future Shop and even the library across the street last night, with no luck. Sorry, lovely.

You are a dream for even taking a look around for me.

p.s. I didn't even know there was a library there. Is it tucked away behind the burger-teria?

It's true. It was a very fine hat, though, and a quite excellen scarf. I'm sorry to have lost them. Your hat seems a better loss, more of a deliberate understanding that stuff does not have to mean anything.

Always happy to help you, lovely. :-)

The library in question is on Willingdon Avenue, one block to the west of the Future Shop. It's convenient for me, being about a fifteen minute walk from my place. The Burnaby Public Libraries in general have a very respectable selection, especially when it comes to music and movies; I once found a DVD there of Charles Bukowski's final live performance outside of the U.S., filmed at the Carnegie Centre on Main Street.

We have the scarf! We have even been wearing it now and again in hopes that someone would recognize it and tell us whose it was.

The "we" of course being myself and Ryan. Not a royal "we", no matter what it sounded like.

You do! That's fantastic! I'm so very glad it's been somewhere safe and warm this whole time. When's a good time to snag it off of you?
