I love the colours (from [livejournal.com profile] jwz)

"Takahiro Takeda, postgraduate student of Japan's Tohoku Univ., dances with Partner Ballroom Dance Robot (PBDR) at a factory of Nomura Unison robotic venture company in Chino city, 200-km west of Toyko. The prototype dance partner robot, developped by Japan's Tohoku Univ Professor Kazuhiro Kosuge, enables them to move in all directions with three special wheels by predicting how its partner will mobe with a sensor."

"Robots on the market include a machine that looks like a machine dressed in bright colors programmed to converse in just enough small talk to stop the elderly from going senile and a doll that articulates the needs of a five-year-old boy.

In January, a Tokyo University engineer unveiled a humanoid that can shuffle its feet and wave its hands to preserve a traditional Japanese dance falling out of fashion among young people."

You just made my day.

they're just so glittery.

Domo Arigato! ;)

It confuses me that they seem to have micky mouse ears.

Yeah... what's that about anyway?

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Search me. I know I still want to take one to a prom, however.

cue the dance number?

[identity profile] michel-lacombe.livejournal.com 2005-06-07 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It's always reassuring when a machine looks like a machine.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2005-06-07 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Until someone remixes one with a Real Doll...

...enables them to move in all directions with three special wheels by predicting how its partner will mobe with a sensor.

A follow predicting how its partner will move... That is *so* ballroom.

Ther may be one for swing someday. It couldhappen. Just like I could finally make it to a Saturday. *toes carpet* Liam's been getting at me to go now too.

I dunno, I have trouble visualizing a giant robot on wheels doing a left-right-backstep.

I want a droid <----------- Lifelong dream

Sony has a personal robot for sale, its bipedal and can traverse stairs
as well as their virtual pet line of Ibo Catbo and the new raptor design
all with logistical IA and remote control access to subroutines, as well as programmable subroutines.

Y'know you could make your swing robot yourself, it's not hard, it'll just cost mega $ for the cpu that would be needed to run a robot for something as fast and complicated as swing dancing.

A computer controlled friend would never betray your trust, it would just breakdown over time... not a bad trade ff really, like an programable/intelligent pet

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2005-06-07 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
DDR is getting INTENSE. ;)

[identity profile] waylonmccann.livejournal.com 2005-06-08 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Double Density Ram?
I heard their trying to re engineer that too so that the can get more megs out of a single chip.

they say six months till production, I'll give it two at the current rate of technological growth.

what pentium chip are we at now?

I wonder if I will actually be able to buy that new spine I allways joke about.... mmm titanium never snap or crack vertabrae!!!! IWANT

[identity profile] actingbunny.livejournal.com 2005-06-08 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
now you too can dance with Sailor Moon.
They are pretty.

I think I want a room with walls covered in that particular plastic.

[identity profile] ishokunaeppy.livejournal.com 2005-06-08 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally, I hate it when my dance partner mobes unexpectedly. It's enough of a shock when I see it coming.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not a very good dancer, myself, but I'm well enough to not be trod on too much. (It's a blesing as I dance barefoot around goths on a semi-regular basis. Those boots? Yeah...)

[identity profile] ishokunaeppy.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
After I finally gave up at Erica's wedding reception and got rid of my shoes, I was constantly paranoid that someone was going to mash my feet.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
I find flailing enough that everyone gives you some space tends to help.

[identity profile] ishokunaeppy.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
This was the kind of music suitable to booty-shaking and owning the floor with Erica's gay brother Peter and less to my hardcore pit skills.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
It's a proven fact, gay boys don't tread on toes as often.

Trufax. Someone said we should be on American Bandstand. I laughed girlishly.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
Neither of which I can imagine....

[identity profile] ishokunaeppy.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
I have the mad moves.

[identity profile] ishokunaeppy.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
P.S. That was actually a typo joke. :\

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
(I'm nerdly enough to have thought as such... I think we need to get out a bit more. Either that or meet.)

[identity profile] ishokunaeppy.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
I hear there are bears "outside."

Depending on my financial situation this summer (and my ability to take off of work), I may be doing a bit of traveling. Perhaps I'll make it all the way over to your part of the continent.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
That's the big room with the blue ceiling and the burning, right?

As my financial situation just took a flying leap to the realm of suck, I'm staying put.

[identity profile] ishokunaeppy.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
And you have to converse in complete realtime. It's kind of freaky.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
Realtime I can deal with, it's the lack of hotlinks in face conversation which drives me up the wall.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
the ability to Google names and articles to help explain things. "You know, that band, that had the song with that tiny snippet of lyric I remember."

[identity profile] ishokunaeppy.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. This is why I want to be constantly jacked in.
