Remember the ten thousand superballs sent pouring down Kearny Street in San Fransisco like a gleeful tide of bouncing doom?

Here's the commercial they were making.

(For fun, the official site has making-of clips and little explanations about how incredibly wonderful they are for making all this and isn't it imaginative?)

The music is that sweetly unreal Jose Gonzales cover of Heartbeats, originally a pop-crunchy song about a one night stand, by The Knife. At various times, I've been addicted to both, though mostly the original. I like the Gonzales cover mostly for the novelty and for how it reminds me of the little beach-house with Alastair, down in California.

Here is the original, here is the cover. Here are the lyrics.

Does anyone else think it's an odd choice?

Also, as another odd SF piece of "art": San Fransisco made of jell-o.

So do they ever explain how they cleaned up 250,000 superballs released into the wild?

apparently they had a net at the bottom of the hill, covered all the storm drains, all the cars etc. on the street were props, and a cleanup crew went round getting them out of bushes etc. Thus spake someone who lived on the street, according to the flickr comments.

Really neat stuff. I particularly like this one shot in the middle of the commercial of a swirly ball that's spinning at it bounces down, in the middle of the rain nof colour, it stands out for a moment.

Thank you jhayne: san fransisco seems to be on your mind this post, eh?

Hi

I've been there, to that jell-o city.

Can you guess what went through my mind as I wrote the word jell-o and wondered if I was spelling it right?

As the sun rose, the city flashed into uncomparable beauty, every tensile edge flaring incandescent.. I've no idea.

Hi

Ha, like I would ever think anything like that! No, I though "J-E-L-L-OOOOOOWWWWEEEEE" You know, from the commercial. That happens to me sometimes, and it is at time like those that I realise just how deeply I am infected by everything that I see and hear.

You forget my cultural void that lives where television should be. I've only this week seen my first clips form the daily show, and only this month seen aany Family Guy.

It'snot boy snoring, it's like cat snoring, and generally stops when you nudge him.

Hi

I talk in my sleep, and what I say tends to make sense - it tends to be in reference to my dreams.

I don't know how it's going to sell televisions, personally. I think it's wonderful simply for taking a one night stand and transforming it into a love song.

Music: One sounds like "Scarborough Fair" the other like a Yamaha DX-7 being digested by a wolverine.

I wont keep either but I'll keep the cover longer. Of course the lyrics are lost on me because lyrics are the last thing I ever pay attention to when I listen to music.......

Thanks so much for making that Jose Gonzalez cover available. The commercial started playing over another Knife track I was listening too and I thought my brain was broken.

You're more than welcome, stranger person. I'm overly fond of that particular track, so I understand how jarring it can be to go from one to another at first. I don't have very much else by The Knife, is it as good?
