Does anyone knows where to find a copy of Useless by Kruder & Dorfmeister? I'd be happy for any of their music. What Do You Want Me To Say? by Dismemberment would be good too. I'm running out of downloaded music I like, and Pandora, though useful, runs itself into the ground when left alone too long. I set it to play Lamb and when I came back from a shower it had decided TATU would be a good idea. That I have no iTunes account merely adds to that particular annoyance. When I find enjoyable new music, I have no access to it.

  • Anti-teenager sound weapon.

Day by day I have nothing planned. There's a gentle tick tick tick in the back of my head. I'll be gone in two days and I'm still uncertain what I'm doing. My house is cleaner, my room tidied, but my suitcase is sitting like a guilty house-pet on my bed, mouth open and half empty. I expected a call from Ray this morning, but the phone's rung once and it wasn't for me. Nicole tells me I have to face down a mall somewhere. Living in Vancouver doesn't prepare a body for anything cold that doesn't come out of a gelati parlour. I mostly have slim pieces of tie-on velvet and little black t-shirts with subtle line drawings of aliens on them. Nothing ready for snow, except for my scarf, and honestly, I'm not sure how many times I can pack that.

Speaking of aliens, darling [livejournal.com profile] theramina posted this link to a video of a contortionist woman with especially extraordinary flexibility that is worth watching if only for the reminder that humans are capable of the weirdest things.

Part of my shopping dread stems from the time of year I happen to be doing this in. There's christmas lights in every display window and piped in "holiday favourites" in every store. Fake plastic trees that grab at nothing, offering hope only to little kids and people with real families. (And how many of those have secrets tucked away in sad apartments the other side of town?) I used to make stockings out of silk organza and taffeta edged with rhinestones as an attempt to fight against all the tacky red fake fur and gummy white fluff. This season though, like last year, I should be lucky to find a moment of respite in the places I plan on going to. I've no weapons against the overwhelming false cheer. All those beautifully wrapped boxes are empty.

  • A NOLA-area mall's Katrina-themed holiday display has been gaining coverage.

Nick, the regular godsend he is, has volunteered to take me down to Army & Navy today. He's a heavy snow boarding enthusiast, so I'm going to let myself fall into his hands as if in a trust exercise. Is anyone else willing to dive into shopping hell with me? I don't know where yet. The rare times I go shopping, I do it on The Drive. Someone suggested Metrotown, (Why don't they ever name these places interestingly? I'd rather spend time somewhere called the virgin-whore complex.), which sounds pretty evil. Unless there's a store marked WARM SOCKS & SWEATERS ETC, I suspect I'm going to be unsuccessful alone.
  • montreal leg warmers for girls without gramma's

back when i lived in montreal we made legwarmers in this way:

    1) go to valuevillage or any other place where you might find a sweater for under 5$. (old sweater you never wear in the back of your closet works just as well) find a sweater you like and can imagine wearing on your legs.

    2) You are going to slice off the arms and wear them on your legs so the secret is that if you put your leg in the arm, sticking your foot in through the cuff, so that the cuff can be pulled up to just below your knee and the rest of the arm hangs down and covers your calves. the cuff should fit there snug and not fall down. If it doesn't fit there snug it won't make a good leg warmer. the arms should also be long enough to reach at least as far as your ankles.

    3) buy it and then cut the arms off and wear them on your calves. this is way more fun than real leg warmers and they give you those elephant feet the skinny ass, miniskirt in winter wearing, chainsmoking, montreal girls all have.

the only bad thing about them is that they often drag in the snow and act as a kinda wick, drawing wet up to your knees. but hey better then freezing. we used to wear then under pants or over tights or both. enjoy the snow -- it's fun for awhile. it's the part where it lasts till May that really made me insane.

If you do this, make sure it's real wool for warmth even when wet. Cashmere is King of Cosy, and second-hand stuff slightly attacked by moths is often cheap.

Also, I'll try to upload a little music tomorrow - I should have some K&D somewhere, but it's slow on dial-up.

Useless by Kruder & Dorfmeister ?

I'll put out my feelers in the ol' pirate world of the net.

If I can't come up with some leads in 24 hours, i'll pass it off to my superior. if HE can't find it. it's not available online.

Do you have a program for downloading torrents?

it should be simple enough for me to find the .torrent file for you. Though if you haven't got a program to download it, i should be able to download it, .zip it and send it to you. Though my computer is runnin on empty as far as space goes. So i'd be wanting to send it to you as soon as I got it.

Would you like a pair of winter gloves? Good for snowballs.

And someone just posted the entire KMFDM discography to YSI if you're interested.

I've got mittens covered, though thank you kindly for the offer.

An entire discograpy would be a gift.

Sorry I didn't call the other day. People ended up being at my house until some insane hour and I slept in just enough to be late for work. I missed morning entirely, unless you count the dawn. *grins* We have the same sickness, the We Hate Alarms.

That's okay, I understand the alarms. Hopefully we can get together when you're back. Glad your hands will be warm.

I would make you warm things but there's no way for me to get them done in time, let alone into your possession.

I spent $100 on sweaters today. I wish I had gone to VV instead.

I spent a hundred on getting warm things today, but I spent more than that getting presents for the people who're flying me out. Hopefully, they won't see this. *grins*

Are you one of those mystical people who can make things from string??

    Date: 2005-12-08 09:48 am (UTC)
    From: [identity profile] chicazul.livejournal.com
My record of things-from-string is, erm, questionable. I can do it...just...slowly. And a little unevenly. I am a fiend with the polar fleece though, and am considering foisting hats-with-ears upon most of my friends this winter.

    From: [identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com
I would totally weat a hat-with-kitty-ears. A woman came into the shop the other day wearing a pink tuque with not only pink bunny ears, but two little eyes and teeth that hung over her forehead. On the back was a fuzzy tail. That I could not wear.

However, it reminded me of my idea to make a Gir hat.

I'd have to disagree re: the video.
No no. The BEST part is the surprise special appearance by the bearded guy in the last few frames. The experience was kind of like being hypnotized into a trance and then smacked in the face with a cinderblock of seasonal cheer. Special.

The random coca-cola santas are a bit wierd, yeah, but somehow not so surreal after watching that film. I like how you put it though.
