Tomorrow I'm going to make an attempt at Seattle. I have no passport, which may be a problem, but as I wasn't turned back last winter when I went to live in L.A. so perhaps luck will remain with me and I'll slip through.

I'm looking for things to do alone, for places nice to visit, interesting to poke at, fun to take pictures of. My only plans are to find a nice place for dinner by the water, to drop in at the Roq La Rue, and maybe lick the EMP. I don't know if any of you are from Seattle or visit regularly enough to have a recommendation, but any are appreciated. People have only told me to go to Pike Place.

Sinister Bedfellows: Anthology now has an ISBN (978-1-4116-9929-8) and will soon be listed in Books In Print. There will soon be advertising on Something Positive. (Randy Milholland's designing the ad.)

Perhaps I was a bit premature. I am waiting on Randy's ad guy to get back to me on the ads. I suppose there is the slim possibility of Randy turning me down, but I don't really expect that.

I am waiting to here back from a couple of other sites also.

Anything of especial note?

Given my pleas last time, I obviously don't have much idea. University Ave and Broadway are the places most recommended to me, but they're mostly just streets with stores. Interesting stores, but nonetheless. The Pike Place Market did look very neat, even though I was there after dark.

I found myself loving everywhere I went, and I didn't evne wander very much.

It was a very good time away.

That is good to hear. I tend to enjoy random cities, myself.

you need ID, but not a passport.

Seems next year that goes into effect. I was fine. The border guard was more interested in the thick heavy novel I was reading over my ID or reasons for entry.

2006 is the last year you can travel to the States with just photo ID and a birth certificate; beginning 2007 we'll need passports.

I used to live in Seattle and later visited every other week but it was too long ago to be much use with recommendations now, other than in general Capital Hill for cool stuff. Flying Fish is my fave restaurant but they may be closed now. 13 Coins is a 24 hr institution. EMP is great and they do have a good restaurant there too. Trying to remember something right on the water...

I'll keep hese in mind for next time. This was a tourist sort of shot with a half hour bus ride to the airport because I didn't quite know which one was the express bus.

For dancing the Vogue is an institution.

There's a restaurant famous for its chowder overhanging the water I went to. Not downtown though; near Wallingford? Ivars? There are a lot of Ivars, it's a chain ranging from fine dining to chowder stands and frozen supermarket meals and I know one -nice - restaurant is on the water.

Take lots of pictures! (I hardly needed to say that...)

My very first web site (http://web.archive.org/web/20010517111027/www.javina.com/nirvana/190594.html) was documentation of a weekend in which I took off to Seattle with no idea where I was going and had a blast. Maybe it's more fun not to have recommendations and see what you discover?

Archie McPhee's.

( other regular haunts for me, well, Pike's good for a short few hours, um, the library's a trip to walk thru, cap hill is alright for browsing round and I second the Vogue, excellent place, friendly souls. If you're in for looking for music, go to Musicwerks. Hrm. What else? I need to go back there again. The Sci fi thing at the EMP's also a treat, if you're geekily inclined.)

have fun in seattle.

I used to work with you at fannys. ( blah)

I went to the EMP not last fall but the one before. I fell immdiately in love. It's where I went first this time. I didn't even go in, I just trailed my hands around the building.

The damn thing, I just want to lick it.

too bad i didn't see this sooner. volunteer park rocks. it's beautiful, with views of the water, a water tower, an asian art museum, and a conservatory with lots of flowers. right next to it is the most beautiful cemetary. i used to spend hours and hours there.

I was in love with the time I spent ther. Now I know the trick to getting there cheap, I'm going to do it more. I plan on becoming a lot more familiar with the place. I think I have to.

Just morning
