I wonder if my seeds will find purchase in your soil

About a mile past the bridge, my throat creaked, and something broke, and tears fled down my face.

Every highway exit closer to the border was like a stich sewn into my chest, black thread spun by the rolling tyres of the bus, that closed my heart back up, and kept anything else from spilling out.

I can't remember the last time I cried. Maybe when someone died. I don't actually know.

Good to hear you made it back without any extra physical injury, at least. I'm also glad I got the chance to actually hug you, rather than just wanting to.

Crying can be remarkably hard, sometimes. One time it took me a year.

*nods* I wish we'd had more time together. If I'd only taken a half day on Friday, I would have got back home to discover my ID in enough time to get there that day. Alas, though, alack, poor Yorick, all that. I'm dreadfully glad we did finally manage to track each other down.

*hugs* Hope your noggin' is doing OK. Make sure you get rechecked a little later on.

Excuse me?

And yes, the head's fine. It's just a bump, fading fast.

Swimming In Your Ocean - Crash Test Dummies

"Swimming In Your Ocean"

When I'm sampling from your bosom
Sometimes I suffer from distractions like
Why does God cause things like tornadoes and train wrecks?

[CHORUS]
When I'm swimming in
When I'm swimming in your ocean
Floating aloft on creams
And scented lotions
I can get pretty side-tracked
I hope you'll understand

When I kneel before your bounty
Sometimes I wonder if there could be really
UFO's that come from other planets

And when you let me taste your fingers
I take them like fruit and as I linger I
Wonder if my seed will find purchase in your soil ...

Oooh. Those are some seriously good lyrics. I should track it down and have a listen.

[identity profile] spaz-own-joo.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It's from "God Shuffled His Feet", which is a fantastic album. Good road trip music.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I have that CD somewhere, possibly never opened. I've got a few songs off it on my computer, I love God Shuffled His Feet.

[identity profile] spaz-own-joo.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Dig it up and devote 45 minutes (or whatever) to it. Trust me.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I just went and put in a search for their entire discography. Wasn't hard to find.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! and have you ever listened to Cinderellen? It's the solo album from the Crash Test Dummies female singer, and it's amazing.

[identity profile] spaz-own-joo.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
On the list.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Just to double-check. Lunch tomorrow, yes? And when?

[identity profile] blogtodiffer.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
Er, right, exactly what I was trying to say.

I have God Shuffled His Feet, and A Worm's Life, but A Worm's Life doesn't have nearly as many good songs.

Swimming In Your Ocean is one of my favourite songs, it's hilarious.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it might be a new favourite, but I find it rather tender and sweet, personally. Hilarity doesn't enter into it at all.

[identity profile] blogtodiffer.livejournal.com 2008-08-27 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
If you go into interviews they've done about it, they were deliberately being sarcastic, making fun of all the sweet and sappy love/sex songs out there.

The joke is he's having sex with this fantastic girl, but he keeps going off on strange tangents.

I find it a tad odd that you don't know much about Crash Test Dummies as a group.

I liked the new direction they started going with Give Yourself A Hand.

Living in Vancouver is stifling. My Seattle is a glorious place full of people who love me, who I love back, where there's no restraints to how nice we can be, how clever and together and strong. I don't have a community like that here, where I am. I've never had one like that anywhere.

[identity profile] sepulchrave.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
come back! I was out of town!

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't afford a ticket for awhile, or else I would. The soonest I can make it is maybe October.

[identity profile] porphyre.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, scratch that. I might be back the first weekend in September. You around then?

A sizable percentage of the population of Rowe Mesa, New Mexico loves you too. Really really lots.

Living in Vancouver isn't stifling. Being where you live is stifling - because you have to live there. Being somewhere you don't live is invigorating - but if you like a place you don't want to spoil it by living there.

I've been happier everywhere else I've ever lived, actually, except for when I got stuck in the flooding down in L.A.
