Today I felt it was more important to watch Obama's inauguration through the magic of live streaming video from my bed than to get up get to work on time. (Oh future, you are so magical.)

My early morning head muzzy on time differences, I missed most of the show, but as the speech drew to a close, I could feel my eyes stinging with a rich mix of emotions. Pride, wonder, worry... but most of all relief.

Congratulations on your recent transformation, U.S.A. On your recent return to morality, decency, and fair play.

We've been waiting for you. It's going to be a good day.

It'll take a while to get the stains out of the carpet, but now that the previous tenant is gone the place ought to be a bit more presentable really soon.

I just wish we could get the deposit back.

A friend of mine who lives in NYC wrote me today to mention,

"I like that they completely changed the whitehouse.gov website at exactly 12:01PM. (By U.S. constitutional law, obama becomes the president at 12:00PM on January 20th, regardless of whether he's taken the oath yet.) They've made some interesting changes, that are both more web-savvy and more modern. All the presidential portraits, which had been paintings, have been replaced with photographs where available, basically all the way back to Lincoln. They also completely rewrote George W. Bush's presidential biography, too."

They're going to be posting non-emergency legislation on the website too, 5 days before the president is due to sign on them so that people can read and comment on what is proposed.

I am liking this transparency plan. I'm liking it a lot.

We've been waiting for it down here, too. And I certainly hope it happens, and that it sticks.

It's looking promising so far, though, isn't it?

I admit I'm jealous of my yankee friends. I wish my coming elections were nearly as exciting or promising.

I hear you. This is the first time in history the US has a more liberal government than Canada.

Does this make you more likely to move to the USA?

Certainly does, actually. The first thing he did in Office was to start shutting down Guatanamo Bay.
