I've had respect for the book as one ot those classics that have inspired many people, and as good source art for tattoos I've seen, but I have long since forgotten the few times I personally experienced it in my childhood.

The film definitely looks like it has some quality talent and vision behind it, though.

I am dimly recalling an interesting SIFF (VIFF?) film chronicling a somewhat rocky collaboration between Mssr. Sendak and Pilobolus. "The Last Dance" perhaps?

I was a little concerned when I'd read that there was talk of reshooting the film because it was too scary or whatever...

I never thought the Wild Things themselves were scary... sure, they have fangs and claws and horns and are huge, but Sendak somehow drew them as, I dunno, friendly-looking. Smiling.

From what I've read about the history of the book, Sendak named the Wild Things after his aunts and uncles... Bernard, Tzippeh, Moishe, Aaron, Emil, etc. The Wild Things have names in the movie, apparently, but not the same as the ones Sendak came up with.

I think the Wild Things themselves were fabricated by Jim Henson's people... and I get a goofy kick out of realizing that the Wild Thing at the beginning is voiced by James Gandolfini...
